Winter Weather

Jan 22
2 min read

Be prepared for winter storms: A significant snowstorm is expected in the St. Louis area this weekend. Exercise caution and prioritize safety while traveling, walking, or clearing snow. If possible, please remain at home for your safety and to give time for all roads to be cleared. Here are some reminders to help ensure everyone stays safe and informed.

No street parking during snow events: Every street in Bel-Nor is designated as a snow route and will be plowed if 2"+ of snow is forecasted. A city ordinance requires that vehicles be removed from the streets to provide plows with the necessary space to clear the roads. If street parking obstructs the plow's path and makes it unsafe to operate, plowing will not occur, this includes pre-treating the streets. This precaution is taken to prevent potential damage to your vehicle. Keep your vehicle safe and get a clear street by moving your vehicle off the street prior any actual sleet/ice/snow.

Please pass this message onto neighbors that may not get the Chimes.

WINTER STORM SAFETY TIPS

  • Bundle up properly when going outside, use layers and cover as much skin as possible.

  • Use a broom to keep natural gas meters and piping clear during the winter. Never use a shovel, ice chipper, pole or similar tool or even hit your natural gas meter or piping as this may damage equipment.

  • Close curtains to keep heat from escaping through windows.

  • Be sure to check on elderly and disabled friends and neighbors.

  • Prepare an emergency kit with supplies (flashlights, radios, batteries, non-perishable foods, water, medicines, blankets, warm clothes, etc.) to use in the event of a storm.

  • Keep electronics charged (and back-up batteries) in case of a power outage.

  • Turn off the water to your hose spigot. Open your cabinet doors under your sinks to keep pipes from freezing.

  • Follow all directions on space heaters and be extra cautious when using.

Fallen trees/limbs: Report any fallen street tree limbs to City Hall. Our local officers, alderpersons, maintenance, etc will be in the neighborhood to be on the lookout for these.

Be safe and stay warm this week this weekend.
