Trash Service: No change to trash, recycling, and yard waste pick-ups for Thanksgiving week. We will have regular Wednesday service.
RECA Awards: Of the tens of thousands of eligible RECA recipients in St. Louis County, St. Louis City, and St. Charles County, at least 2,200 people affected directly or indirectly by Manhattan Project nuclear waste have applied for federal compensation, and 150 applications totaling $2,500,000 have already been approved. The deadline for submitting applications is December 2027. County government has the information here.
Supporting Families Through Uncertainty: With continued uncertainty surrounding WIC and SNAP benefits, many of us are looking for ways to support our neighbors. Partnerships like our collaboration with the St. Louis Integrated Health Network are vital in ensuring families have access to the resources they need.St. Louis County is also hosting a formula, diaper, and wipes drive to make sure no babies go without during the federal government shutdown. Donations can be dropped off at any St. Louis County Library branch or Saint Louis County Health Center through November 17.While this baby essentials drive focuses on these three items, those looking to donate food are encouraged to connect with local organizations like Operation Food Search. Together, we can make a real difference for families across our community.
Neighborhood Preservation: Not all extension cords are created equal. As the weather changes and we start preparing for our holiday decorations, it’s essential to choose the right extension cord to keep you and your house safe. Here are some tips to consider:
Load Capacity: Ensure the extension cord you select can handle the electrical load of the equipment you wish to power.
Condition Check: Inspect the cords for kinks and ensure the protective coating is intact.
Outdoor Use: If you plan to use the extension cord outside, confirm that it is rated for outdoor use.
Safety First: Keep the cord clear of walkways to prevent tripping hazards.
When in Doubt: Opt for a heavy-duty extension cord to safely manage the load.
Neighborhood Safety:
Always keep your doors secure: this includes windows, entry/exit doors, and car doors
Avoid leaving your vehicle running and unattended with the keys inside
If you're planning to be away for the holidays, consider submitting a vacation form to the police so they can monitor your home while you're gone. Forms can be filled out at city hall.
