Roof Permits: If you are planning to install new roof on your house (or undertaking any construction work), please remember that Bel-Nor requires a roof permit. This permit also requires 2 inspections (during and after completion). Please plan accordingly. Permits can be filled out at City Hall or on the website. Payment must be made before a permit will be issued.

Calling for Volunteers!  We need your help to thin plants at the Bellerive and Arlmont Island in Bel-Nor. Meet your neighbors and lend a helping hand. This island is the last of the city gardens to be thinned out for the season. No gardening knowledge or expertise needed. Many hands make light work!

Saturday, September 6th from 9 am - 11-ish

The following items will be handy to bring with you: Shovels, gloves, hand trowels, clippers, yard waste bags, mosquito spray, and disposable pots, trays or boxes you may have.

Volunteer Plants for Plant Sale: If you are thinning your garden this week, please donate your excess to the plant sale. Drop off plants in front of City Hall September 9, 10, & 11. Box/pot each plant and label with its name and bloom color. Hostas, wildflower deadhead seeds, bulbs, we will take it all.

We need your input: The security and well-being of our community are both top priorities for your city officials. As part of an initiative to better understand Bel-Nor's safety needs, we're asking residents to complete a brief, voluntary survey about exterior security cameras. In the event of a crime, law enforcement may consult the results to identify and contact residents who have cameras in the vicinity, potentially aiding in investigations. Your specific information will not be shared with the general public. Your participation will provide valuable insight into how we can improve public safety. Please take a few moments to share your input by clicking the link below. (contributed by Alderperson Brockschmitt)

Pagedale Community Festival: Saturday, Sept. 13th from 2pm-9pm at Pagedale City Park (located behind Pagedale city hall). The parade begins at 2pm and following the parade, the festival will offer food, entertainment, activities for the kids, and public engagement.

Tree Board Meeting: The Bel-Nor Tree Board will be on Wednesday, September 17th at 6:30. Stay tuned to hear about the fall planting event for those that requested trees for their easement and their yard.

Street Tree Planting: Bring a shovel, grab a donut and plant a tree at the first of two fall street tree planting days on Saturday, October 11th from 10 am - noon. Meet at the intersection of Audrain and Delavan for coffee and donuts with neighbors and a short planting demonstration. Tools and materials will be available to borrow, but - if you can - bring work gloves to wear and a shovel to share. All ages, abilities and experience levels are welcome.

Can’t make it? Bel-Nor’s Thanksgiving Day of Service will include a second round of street tree planting in mid November. Date TBA.

Clearview Park: We have received reports of static electricity accumulation in the playground at Clearview Park. To address this, we applied a mixture of Downy Free & Clear Fabric Softener diluted with water to the turf. We are pleased to inform you that this solution appears to have resolved the issue. Should static electricity return, we will persist in spraying the turf to eliminate it.

Neighborhood Preservation: Get to know your neighbors! Individuals with strong ties to their community can help create stronger and safer neighborhoods. Start to build your network by spending time outside. Say hi to neighbors and build from there. Volunteer to help with a community project or attend community events. (See above for opportunities).

Neighborhood Safety: An emergency management plan for homeowners focuses on a proactive approach that ensures your family are ready to respond to a disaster with minimal stress.

To start your plan: Determine which potential natural disasters are most likely to affect your area and research how to prepare for them. Review your insurance coverage to ensure you have adequate coverage. Inventory your home. Take photos of your belongings to have a record for insurance purposes. Store financial documents. Create physical and digital copies of important documents, including birth certificates, passports, social security cards, deeds, and insurance policies.

  • Establish a communication plan:

    • Designate an out-of-town contact person who everyone can check in with if separated.

    • Create a contact list with phone numbers for family, friends, and emergency services (digital and paper)

    • Discuss how you will receive emergency alerts (e.g., radio, text messages).

  • Designate meeting places: Identify a meeting place right outside your home for sudden emergencies like a fire, and a second, out-of-town location for a large-scale disaster.

  • Plan for pets: Make a plan for what to do with your pets if you need to evacuate. Research pet-friendly hotels and shelters in advance.
