Trees are Life: Bel-Nor is pleased to announce that, with the assistance of Beyond Housing and the Missouri Department of Conservation's Community Forestry Cost Share Program, we successfully secured funding for vital tree-related initiatives. This collaborative effort helped to address potential hazards associated with trees, ensuring that our community continues to reap the numerous benefits they provide. From mitigating stormwater impacts to purifying our air and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Bel-Nor, these initiatives underscore our commitment to creating a healthier and more beautiful place to live.
Light’s Out: As you navigate through St. Louis City in May, you might notice a slight dim. Iconic landmarks like the Arch and the Zoo sign will be turning off their lights for the month. The Mississippi Flyway, recognized as one of four major bird migration routes in North America by the American Bird Conservancy, serves as a crucial path. Many birds that winter in South and Central America utilize this route to return northward along the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio rivers. The St. Louis Audubon Society projects that 60% of North American songbirds and 40% of waterfowl will migrate along this path this spring and fall. By turning off nighttime lights, we can help these birds migrate safely without the distractions of light pollution.
The St. Louis County Library will be celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May. Check out one of the 80+ programs they have planned including author events, book and film discussions, cooking demonstrations art programs and more. Check out the library website for more information.
Neighborhood Preservation: We are happy to report that all removals and trims have been completed for the year. Now, we start the process again. Starting in May, Beyond Housing’s Department of Forestry will be in Bel-Nor to evaluate the street trees. They will be tagging trees that potentially will be removed (orange) or trimmed (green).
It’s that time of year! Please remember to cut your grass and keep easement plantings under 24” and not impeding the sidewalk.
Neighborhood Safety: Whether it's day or night, rain or shine, our residents enjoy strolling through the neighborhoods. When walking after dark, keep these safety tips in mind:
Wear bright clothing
Walk against traffic or ideally, on the sidewalk
Carry a flashlight
Walk with a friend
Choose well-lit areas
If you notice a streetlight that is out, please reach out to Ameren. You can find information on how to report streetlight outages on Bel-Nor’s website.
