July 31: Please join Great Rivers Greenway on Thursday, July 31 from 5:30-7:30 pm to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the regional network of greenways with a free snowcone on the greenways.

Location: St. Vincent Greenway, St. Vincent County Park, 7335 St Charles Rock Rd

Normandie Golf Course: The course is advancing well. The irrigation system is nearing completion, and the final buildings on the property are set to be demolished. Sod installation is expected to begin in July, alongside the sand placement in the bunkers. Despite experiencing a very wet winter and spring, progress remains on track. The course is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2025. Once the course opens, the design and construction of the clubhouse will commence.

Text 911: In an emergency, but can’t speak? You can now text 911 in St. Louis County. Text to 911 is now live at all dispatch centers, providing a vital communication option for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, have speech disabilities, or are in situations where calling isn’t safe.

How to use Text to 911:

  • No photos, videos or emojis

  • Include your location and describe the emergency

  • Use clear and simple language

  • Keep your phone nearby in case the dispatcher needs more information

August Ballot: The TDD will be on the ballot in this August’s election. The Transportation Development District (TDD) allows for a percentage of taxes to be used specifically for transportation improvement. This funding can be used for roads, signs, signalization improvements, sidewalks, streetscapes, and more. The estimated annual revenue for Bel-Nor is $80,000-$100,000. Seventeen municipalities in the 24:1 footprint will benefit from this tax to help improve roads throughout the community.

Emergency Preparedness Workshop: MU Extension will be hosting a workshop for families to create a disaster plan to keep your household prepared and protected when it matters most. This workshop will be on Saturday, July 19th at 10 am at the RCEW Building on UMSL’s campus. Space is limited, so sign up soon.

Free Mammograms: Mercy will be offering free mammograms to women over 40 who are uninsured, underinsured or face cost barriers. This free event will be held on Saturday, July 19th at Rooney Breast Center (10050 Kennerly Rd, 63128). Appointments are required: 314.525.4188 or 314.525.7794

Help replenish our tree canopy: One effective way to contribute to the replenishment of the Bel-Nor tree canopy is by committing to plant a new street tree this fall. Whether you choose to volunteer for a neighbor’s street tree planting or request a free tree for yourself, the success of restoring Bel-Nor’s tree canopy relies on your participation!

The Tree Board has an interactive online street tree request form. It is user-friendly and features images and descriptions of all available species. While we will be planting trees throughout Bel-Nor, our priority areas for planting include the following under-planted streets: Florentine, Chadwick, Brocton, Bellerive, Delavan, and Andover. If you reside on any of these streets or know friends and family in the area, please sign up or help us spread the word!

The Mosquito Bucket Challenge: Reposting with a working link

This is a simple, effective alternative to fogging-protecting pollinators, pets, and people by safely targeting mosquito larvae without toxic sprays. It’s affordable and it’s better for biodiversity.

Check out more information on the mosquito bucket from Homegrown National Park: https://homegrownnationalpark.org/mosquito-bucket-challenge/

Neighborhood Preservation: In addition to planting trees in the easement, Beyond Housing’s Dept of Forestry will provide a complimentary tree for your yard! During these sweltering summer days, trees offer shade that helps reduce heat gain in your home, while also enhancing the comfort of your patios and landscaping. There are a variety of trees to choose from and the tree will be planted for you in the fall. Sign up today for your free tree: https://our241.com/trees/

Neighborhood Safety: When planning to travel, here are some safety tips:

  • Avoid posting on social media about being away

  • Arrange for mail and newspaper pickup

  • Fill out a vacation check form at City Hall and it will be forwarded to St. John Police.

  • Put lights/tv/radio on timers to look like someone is at home.

  • When you leave and lock your door, do a little dance, and you will remember that you locked the door.
