Attempted Vehicle Theft

Last night, St. John police responded to a report of an attempted vehicle theft at a residence in Bel-Nor. When confronted, the suspects discharged a firearm, causing property damage, and subsequently fled the scene on foot.

The Board has been speaking to the home owners and the police today, and wanted to give an update from what we have learned.

Officers are canvassing the surrounding area for surveillance footage and are actively pursuing leads related to this incident. Unmarked police vehicles will continue to patrol the city.

For residents:

  • Please review any surveillance footage you may have. If you notice anything suspicious, report it to the St. John police. While specific nearby residences have been contacted, we encourage all city residents to check their footage from midnight to 5:00 am on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

  • Ensure that your cars are locked and that all valuables are removed.

  • Keep exterior lights on at night. Consider Dark Sky approved lighting to reduce light pollution, but keep your residence lit.

  • If you would like to add security measures to your home, consider investing in high-quality doorbell cameras and motion-sensor lights. This can help deter crime and also identify suspects.

  • If you observe any suspicious behavior, do not attempt to engage at all; instead, call 911 or the non-emergency police number: 636-529-8210. Leave the handling of such situations to the professionals.

We are grateful that no one was injured, and we are confident that the police will work diligently to identify and charge those responsible.

The family affected by this incident wishes to express their gratitude to everyone for the support received from our community.

Thank you to all our residents for your support to the family and the community.

Anna Vogel, Mayor of Bel-Nor
